というわけで今回はターゲット1900とパス単準1級・1級の比較を、京大英語の的中率も合わせて検証していきます。
なお今回はリクエスト主さんの単語帳遍歴を優先するため、パス単との比較はシステム英単語ではなく、ターゲット1900とさせていただきます。
今回やりたいこと
今回やりたいことを1枚の図で表したので、まずはこちらをご覧ください。
箇条書きに書いてあるとおりです。なお今回はパス単の概要や中身のレビューは、スペースの都合上割愛します。動画でダイジェスト的に触れる(予定の)単語リストは、なるべくブログ上では全表示していきます。ただし何百もの単語が縦に並ぶのは邪魔と感じる人もいるでしょうから、袋とじ状態にしておきます。また、それぞれの単語に訳を載せるのは途方もない作業になるので、気になった単語は皆さんが辞書を引いて調べてください。
2冊比較の必要性

パス単準1級の５訂版は、４訂版に比べて簡単になっているような気がする。
これに関しては、パス単準1級の旧バージョンが現状手元にないので真偽の確かめようがありません。中古で入手出来次第、パス単準1級同士で比較をする予定ですのでご了承ください。

はい、この点においてリクエスト主さんは、いっそのこと1級に手を出そうか悩んでいるわけです。ここではターゲット1900とパス単を1冊ずつ被りを見ていく必要がありますね。
2冊の単語帳比較
それではターゲット1900を中心にパス単を順番に検証していきます。ここでは共通項だけが必要になるので、テンポよく表示していきます。差分は引き算をすれば自然と出てくるので、割愛させていただきます。
なお、今回も使用する言語はpython、京大英語との比較に使用する自然言語処理ライブラリにはspacyを使用しました。
ターゲット1900とパス単準1級の共通項
まずはリクエスト主さんが被りが多いと肌で感じた、ターゲット1900とパス単準1級の共通項はこちらになります。

ちなみにパス単の見出語の中で、熟語はカウントしていません。よってパス単準１級は1600単語を基準に検証していますので、体感的には半分弱くらいの単語が被っていることになります。
単語帳を追加するときに被りが多いことは、人によってはメリットにもデメリットにもなり得ます。
メリットとしては、
知っている単語も載っていて、どんどん進んでいける爽快感・達成感が得やすい
デメリットとしては、
語彙力強化が目的なんだから、もう知っている単語は載っていない方がありがたい
という考え方です。
おそらく今回のリクエスト主さんは後者の印象を抱いたのでしょう。興味の対象は１級に移っていきます。

グッと数が減りました。ちなみにパス単１級は熟語を除いた総単語数は2100個になるので、(完走できたらの話ですが)1800個ぐらいは新しい単語を覚えることになります。英検１級レベルの単語は当然難しいことが予想されるので、これはなかなかやりごたえがありそうですね。

パス単同士でも、ターゲットの被りよりも少ないというのは意外でした。同じ会社でも、級によって積極的に収録単語を分けているんですね。

はい、ターゲット1900は913個、パス単準１級は693個、そしてパス単１級は驚きの1652単語が、独自に収録している数となりました！
驚くべきはパス単１級の被りの少なさです。リクエスト主さんのターゲット1900→パス単１級のルートは、「語彙の総数を増やす」という目的では一番コスパに優れていることが分かります。
3冊の基礎単語を除いた独自単語
次にこれらの差分の中身を順番に見る前に、簡単な単語を省いていきましょう。次の図を見てください。
いくら差分が多いといっても、簡単な単語で稼いでいるのでしたら本来の目的から外れてしまいます。そこで基礎単語を省く処理として、
ターゲット1200、システム英単語ベーシック、中学レベルのターゲット1800に載っている単語は全て取り除く
という処理をかけてあげます。この基礎単語のフィルターにかからずに残った単語は、難単語である可能性が高いと言えるでしょう。結果はこんな感じ。
はい、ターゲット1900は365個、パス単準１級は560個、そしてパス単１級は驚きの1635単語が、基礎単語を除いて独自に収録している単語となりました！
特筆すべきはパス単１級の残り方です。やはり基礎単語なんてほとんど含んでいないことが、この検証からも明らかになりました。逆に言えばターゲット1900からパス単１級に進むにはそれなりの覚悟(ほとんどが知らない単語だから)が必要とも言えますね。

では次に、京都大学2020〜2022英語におけるこれら3冊の的中数とその率を見ていきましょう。
京大英語は東大英語に比べて、長文量は少なめですがその分抽象的で読みづらい英文が多いという特徴があります。それゆえ単年だと少しサンプル数的に物足りないと感じたので、2020年度と2021年度、2022年度の３年度分の英語をまとめた数で検証することにしました。

各大学の的中率はどのような基準で調べているのか、興味のある人は読んでください。
それではこれら3冊が京大英語3年分で当てた単語の数と的中率はこのようになります。
はい、やはり大学受験、特に二次試験向けに作られたターゲット1900がいちばん数が多く276個、単年あたりだと90〜100個くらいの単語を的中させていることになります。それに比べてパス単は、数が少なくなっています。単語のレベルを難しくすればするほど、よりマニアックで専門性や抽象性が高くなり、当てはまる確率が下がるのでしょう。

パス単はどちらも3年合わせて50単語前後に落ち着きました。
言い換えれば、パス単でなければ出会わなかった単語は、単年あたり17個前後ということになります。見返りとしてはいわゆる大学受験向けの単語帳に比べればやはり少ないという結果になりました。
今回のまとめ
今回のまとめは以下のとおりです。
パス単の独自性は準１級、１級ともに客観的な数値として確認することができました。特にパス単１級は別格ですね。それだけ英検１級というのは大学受験レベルより上に設定されていることが予想できます。逆に英検準１級は、高校3年生でも英語の得意な子なら合格例を見かけることがある点からも、大学受験と重なっている部分はあるのでしょう。
では最後に2次試験レベルの英語を鍛えるときに、パス単が必ず必要かと問われれば、人を選ぶという結論になるでしょう。テストで的中する見返りよりも、純粋に語彙力を増やしたいという目的でしたらお勧めできます。
逆に英語はそれなりでいい人や、テストに（高確率で）出てくれる単語じゃなければ割りに合わないと感じる人にはお勧めしません。その他の科目や、英作文などまだ上がり幅が明確に見える部分を鍛えた方がコスパ的には良さそうですね。
この辺は文系と理系でも考え方は変わってくるので、今回の客観的な数値を参考にして、後悔や無理のないように単語帳を選ぶことが大切ですね。
